Writer-Editor-Publisher, Brigadier Abdul Rahman Siddiqi, in and out, of uniform, has devoted the best part of his life to an in-depth study of military history and analysis of civil-military relations in the Third World countries especially in Pakistan.

He launched the Monthly Defence Journal (DJ) early in 1975 as a ‘Pioneer in Defence Studies and Journalism’. The journal had been the only periodical in its class throughout the country.

Brigadier Siddiqi has traveled widely in connection with his professional work as a defence analyst, writer and columnist. He attended international seminars on South Asia, the Gulf and the Middle east, Europe, USA and China.

Besides defence studies and political thoughts, he has also been engaged in literary work contributing short stories to eminent Urdu literary journals. Some of his stories have been translated into English. His other interest is classical music, which he has studied academically for a deeper understanding and appreciation.

He served as Director General of the Inter Services Public Relations and Principal Military Spokesman for five years 1968 – 1973.
